The band have never sounded this colossal,\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003enever felt this intimate, never been this honest.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eWith the strongest arsenal in Nothing's ever-shifting lineup locked\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ein - guitarist Doyle Martin (Cloakroom), bassist Bobb Bruno (Best\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eCoast), drummer Zachary Jones (MSC, Manslaughter 777), and\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ethird guitarist Cam Smith (Ladder To God, also of Cloakroom)\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e- singer-songwriter Domenic \"Nicky\" Palermo knew he had the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003emanpower to make the band's most ambitious record yet. Co-written and produced with Whirr guitarist Nicholas Bassett, and with\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eadditional production and mixing work from Sonny Diperri (DIIV, Julie), a short history of decay, is the most evolved musical statement\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ein Nothing's catalog. Songs like \"Cannibal World\" and \"Toothless\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eCoal\" are cataclysmic lashings of mechanized industrial-gaze that\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003esound like My Bloody Valentine - except more extreme.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eOn the other end of the spectrum, the ornately morose \"Purple\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eStrings\" boasts a beautiful string arrangement that includes harpist\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e- and two-time Nothing contributor - Mary Lattimore. That baroque delicacy permeates other a short history of decay, highlights,\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eparticularly \"The Rain Don't Care,\" a lilting ballad that channels the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eworn-down elegance of Mojave 3, and also \"Nerve Scales,\" a pattering bop that resembles Radiohead in it's marriage of otherworldly\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eatmosphere and mortal precision. Palermo calls the new record\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\"a final chapter.\" Not the end of Nothing, but the conclusion of a\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003estory that began with Nothing's 2014 debut, Guilty of Everything\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e- another album about time, regret, and confronting uncomfortable\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003etruths - and now resolves with a short history of decay,.
