This album brings together\r\nthree works that - considering the varied\r\nstylistic characteristics and expressive\r\nintentions of the three composers - represent\r\na clear example of how the saxophone can\r\nfaithfully return the founding idea of each\r\npiece to the listener, radically modifying it\r\nwithout altering it's nature. The Fantasie\r\nOp.79 by Gabriel Fauré (1898), originally for\r\nflute and piano, was written in response to a\r\ncommission for an examination piece: 'it\r\nmust be short, 5 or 6 minutes at the most [.]\r\nand include the means needed to test the\r\nexaminees on matters of phrasing,\r\nexpression, control of tone and virtuosity'. A\r\nshort time after Adolphe Sax patented the\r\nsaxophone, Edvard Grieg wrote his First Violin\r\nSonata (1865). The author himself described\r\nit as 'still a little naive but rich in melodic\r\nideas'. In three movements and characterised\r\nby an almost spring-like atmosphere, it is\r\nadorned with references to Norwegian folk\r\nmusic which lend a rather grave and\r\nturbulent tone to some sections of the work.\r\nMore 'recent' (by then the saxophone was\r\nheading towards the popularity it deserved)\r\nis Sergei Prokofiev's Sonata in D Op.94,\r\noriginally written for flute and piano in\r\n1943. It immediately drew the attention of\r\nthe great violinist David Oistrakh, who\r\nproposed a violin version of the work to the\r\ncomposer which later became known as\r\nOp.94bis. A fundamental work of both the\r\nflute and violin literatures, here it is\r\npresented in it's adaptation for soprano\r\nsaxophone and piano, and the work\r\ncontinues to embody inventive freshness\r\nand lively elegance of writing.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Alliance Entertainment","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":49641262121260,"sku":"5028421972626","price":14.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0863\/2257\/7708\/files\/4344105-3187713.jpg?v=1724310240","url":"https:\/\/joseyrecords.com\/products\/duo-laterza-bandieri-grieg-prokofiev-violin-sonatas-faure-fantaisie-op-79-arranged-for-saxophone-cd","provider":"Josey Records","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
