Duarte provides a\r\ncomplete survey of the composer's music for\r\nfour guitars. This sub-set of his guitar music is\r\nin itself greatly varied in style but of\r\nconsistently superb quality. Disc one contains\r\nmusic he originally composed for this\r\nensemble, and disc two features his\r\narrangements (many of them of his own\r\ncompositions) for guitar quartet.\r\nDuarte explained that his own stylistic\r\neclecticism derived from improvisation, with\r\ncomposition being a slower form of\r\nimprovisation benefitting from time to\r\nreconsider and to refine the product: 'What\r\none hears becomes translatable into \"playback\" action and\/or, given a knowledge of\r\nmusical theory, comprehensible. It can\r\nprovide a direct route to eclecticism - one\r\nmay adopt what one chooses into one's own\r\nbloodstream and bypass what one feels\r\nforeign to one's own nature.
