Digging Deeper In the Bins

Josey Records is one of the largest independent record stores in America, with various locations spanning across the Midwest. The 15,500 sq. feet warehouse in Dallas is a goldmine of all things music and more, but sometimes, hidden gems fall through the cracks. Due to its labyrinth-esque size, walking in can feel a bit overwhelming, and you might miss some of the rarities. So let’s dig deep in the bins and pull out a few Josey collectibles that you could’ve overlooked.

1. TOOL - Undertow (1997 Re-press) One of the greatest metal bands of all time has found a spot at our Josey Records Plano location. “Undertow”, the 1993 debut album, is a scratchy collection of metal genius. It’s always a good day when you find a TOOL vinyl, but it’s an even better day when it’s from the 90’s. Any metalhead, TOOL enthusiast, or avid record collector should have this in their arsenal. 

2. Tyler Childers - Long Violent History (2021, 10” Limited Edition) This limited edition Tyler Childers vinyl features only 2 songs, but they flow together seamlessly. “Long Violent History” seems to be an ode to Childers’ stance on coal miners rights. “Bonaparte’s Retreat” follows as an extension to the previous track, offering a soft intermission to reflect on the Bluegrass singer’s sharp words.

3. Destiny’s Child - The Writing On The Walls (2019 Re-press, Sealed, Limited Edition) The R&B 2000’s girl group earns a spot on our rare finds list. Mixing smooth R&B and trendy pop, Destiny’s child created a certified classic. The “Say My Name” singers make a perfect addition to any collection. Not to mention, the vinyl is a special edition clear with black splatter.

4. Mac Miller - The Divine Feminine (2016 Original) An original 2016 press of “The Divine Feminine” has graced our Josey Records Plano location. Not only is this a rare find, but it’s also in great condition. “The Divine Feminine” feels like a dream that you don’t want to wake up from.

5. Miley Cyrus - Bangerz (2017, Numbered Re-press, Limited Edition) The “Bangerz” album was a controversial release by the ex-Disney star, however Cyrus’ attempt to distinguish herself as a serious adult artist succeeded. This re-press features “We Can’t Stop”, and a Josey personal favorite, “Rooting For Baby”. Fall back into nostalgia with this genre-bending album. Oh, and it’s pink!
