La edición de lujo de 3 CD/DVD/2 LP del debut del legendario artista con Sire Records incluye sonido recientemente remasterizado, pistas de estudio y en vivo inéditas, además del debut en DVD del video del concierto "The New York Album".

El conjunto de 3 CD/DVD/2 LP viene empaquetado en un libro de tapa dura de 12 x 12 que incluye nuevas notas escritas por el periodista musical David Fricke, ensayos del archivista Don Fleming y fue producido para su lanzamiento por Laurie Anderson, Don Fleming, Bill Ingot, Jason Stern y Hal Willner.

Nueva York captura a Reed en un estado de forma excepcional y está repleta de canciones increíbles como "Busload Of Faith", "Halloween Parade" y "Dirty Blvd". El álbum completo ha sido remasterizado por primera vez para esta colección. El segundo disco presenta versiones en vivo inéditas del Archivo Lou Reed de cada tema del álbum, recopiladas en múltiples presentaciones. Para evitar duplicaciones, ninguna de estas pistas en vivo se extrajo del DVD que acompaña al álbum.

El tercer disco presenta versiones inéditas de varios temas del archivo de Lou Reed, como «Last Great American Whale», «Sick Of You» y «Dirty Blvd». También se incluye el tema «The Room», que no forma parte del LP, así como versiones en vivo de «Sweet Jane», una canción que Reed grabó originalmente con The Velvet Underground, y «Walk On The Wild Side», de su segundo álbum en solitario, Transformer (1972).

Este set también incluye "The New York Album", un video de concierto publicado originalmente en 1990 en VHS y Laserdisc. Nunca había estado disponible en DVD hasta ahora.
