Assassin's Creed Shadows transports players to the rich setting of feudal Japan, anchored by a soundtrack that fuses traditional instrumentation with playful modern production techniques. Montreal-based band TEKE:: TEKE were commissioned to give the game's swift and stealthy protagonist Naoe her impactful 'needle drop' story moments. The group's surf and psych rock influences were a natural fit for the game's direction, with the developers imagining a Tarantino soundtrack when sourcing music for Shadows. In a twist, the band were tasked with interpreting Jesper Kyd's iconic series theme, "Ezio's Family" - a fan favourite normally adapted as part of the score music. The TEKE:: TEKE members' Japanese heritage connected them deeply to the game's setting. Fittingly, through their research and absorption in the project, the band tapped into 'shinobi-do', the philosophy of the shinobi that remains central to the game.
