    1979年に高く評価されたフォークロック三部作を完結させたジェスロ・タルは、翌年、新たなサウンドと新たなラインナップを披露したアルバム『A』でカムバックを果たした。バンドの創設者イアン・アンダーソンがソロアルバムとして制作したこのアルバムのタイトルは、スタジオテープに「A」と記された「アンダーソン」に由来する。アルバム完成後、所属レーベルのクリサリスは、以前のメンバーであるアンダーソンとギタリストのマーティン・バレの2人しか参加していないにもかかわらず、クレジットにジェスロ・タルを明記するよう強く求めた。しかし、アルバムとその後のツアーは世界中のファンから好評を博した。
