NBC Radio Entertainment presents a three hour, five LP radio broadcast featuring dozens of original Motown hits and versions as interpreted by various artists such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Eddie Money, David Lee Roth, Phil Collins, Rod Stewart and many, many more. Hosted by noted Motown aficionado Phil Collins, the show features original commercial blocks and tons of historical information about "the Motown sound", as well as multiple interviews with those artists and more. The interview segments are all pre-recorded and edited into the show, and Collins makes no attempt to present the interviews as if those artists are present in the studio with him. There is also an unknown male radio announcer which bookends this show (Tracks A1 and J10) and his identity is never mentioned.

*MISPRINT INFO: Of note is the fact that the labels state: "BROADCAST DATE: SEPT. 20, 21, 22, 1984", but the first Cue Sheet indicates the year was 1985, not 1984. The labels most likely contained a misprint regarding the date, as the labels also state the title as "ROCK SALUTES MOTOWN '85" as well as stating "© 1985 Denny Somach Productions". Thus, the broadcast / release date was most likely 1985.

Finally, the box cover states: NOT FOR SALE  FOR LICENSED BROADCAST ONLY, which qualifies this entry for the Promo tag.
