The album was recorded with the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra and Gilda Buttà on piano. Morricone functioned as orchestrator, conductor and producer. The album stayed 105 weeks on the Billboard Top Classical Albums. Not only did the great cellist honor the the iconic screen composer on this 2004 album, but he teamed with him here, too.
